About Kota Damansara
Kota Damansara is a rapidly developed township in the Petaling District of Selangor, situated between Petaling Jaya, Shah Alam and Sungai Buloh. Home to approximately 150,000 residents across numbered sections, it combines affordable housing, upscale developments and growing commercial precincts. The township is anchored by the MRT Sungai Buloh-Kajang line stations.
Housing ranges from the early 2000s terraced homes in Seksyen 4-8 to newer condominiums and serviced apartments around the MRT stations. The terraced homes, though relatively young, were built on former palm oil estate soil that supports active termite colonies. Properties in Seksyen 9 and 10 near the Sungai Buloh Forest Reserve boundary face additional pest pressure from the adjacent jungle environment.
Sunway Giza, Encorp Strand and The Strand malls have transformed Kota Damansara into a dining destination, with restaurants, cafes and food courts serving the residential population and office workers from nearby Damansara Perdana and Mutiara Damansara. The commercial food waste from these clusters sustains cockroach and rat populations in shared waste areas.
The proximity to the Sungai Buloh Forest Reserve — a protected secondary forest — creates a unique forest-urban interface along Kota Damansara's northern boundary. Mosquitoes breed in the forest fringes and nearby waterways. Monkeys, monitor lizards and various insects from the reserve occasionally encroach into residential areas. Ongoing construction in remaining development parcels disturbs soil and displaces pest colonies.
